Dance to Bach’s Music

Bach at the Ball, on Sunday, April 15, 2012

Intensive workshop taught by Catherine Turocy,

of  The New York Baroque Dance Company

Early Music in Motion (EMIM) is sponsoring a special dance workshop for music teachers, focusing on Bach’s dance music. Ms. Turocy has designed a 3 hour dance workshop which will teach music teachers how to introduce the minuet, bourée and gigue to their young students.

Attendees will learn a warm-up movement based on the pulse, weight, flow and rhythm of the dance form. They will be introduced to the short-hand dance notation used in the 18th century for minuets and country dances. The class will close with a 20 minute session on how to use specific websites as teaching tools.

In addition, the workshop will be video-recorded, and a DVD of the video will be given to each participant.

This workshop is open to music teachers of all instruments. Dancers who wish to assist music teachers in co-operative projects, especially for end of year music or dance recitals, are also encouraged to attend.
